Neighbors, it’s an exciting time in Downtown OKC with the streetcar construction underway. Your UN representatives attended the Downtown BID (business improvement district) Board meeting last week, and we learned that by this time next year (April 2018, construction delays notwithstanding), you’ll see streetcar vehicles making test runs on the Bricktown loop. We also learned that the city is providing an excellent way get weekly updates on construction progress. If you’d like to know exactly when roads will be closed, sign up for this mailing list to get those updates and plan your daily commute around that pesky traffic!
Urban Neighbors members have been invited to the “Back in Business at the Brick” event at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Thursday, March 30th!

This week our community garden was featured in the Oklahoma Gazette cover story Growklahoma City! Urban Farmers Cultivate Community and a Connection to the Land by Greg Elwell.
Here’s an excerpt:
Planning Midtown’s Urban Neighbors community garden is more of a group effort, said garden co-chairwoman Shelley Pruitt. When the group meets March 11, members will pick and plan what to grow in the 10 raised-bed gardens for the next year.
Every Saturday, the group meets at 417 W. Park Place to work and welcome newcomers. The garden started in 2013, a few years after Pruitt moved downtown.
Please pick up a copy of this week’s Gazette and read the full article!
Also, please join us on March 11th to work the garden. Fill out the interest form to let us know to expect you!

Thank you so much to our annual general meeting host [ARTSPACE] at UNTITLED, our now traditional annual speaker, Steve Lackmeyer, for giving us so much of his time and attention each year, and our door prize donor, Lifesquire. If you haven’t visited UNTITLED recently, you should consider not only revisiting, but returning regularly given the number of programs they have, and this is not even to mention their new retail space, [HIVE] at UNTITLED.
