Neighbors, please join us at our monthly social at Joey’s Pizzeria, in Historic Film Row. Bring a friend that has never been to a social, and, if they join, they get one of our washable paper bags (while supplies last)!
Our speaker for the month will be downtown state house representative (District 99) George Young.
YES!!! These bags are designed to last for years! They are made of PAPER and you can wash them in a WASHING MACHINE! However, and you knew there was one, DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER! A dryer cycle will definitely degrade its life. Let it air dry!
If you’re wondering how to get one, well, you should have attended our UN10 event! But since you didn’t, as of this writing we do have a few left. You, or rather, your guest, can get one if you bring someone NEW to a monthly social.
Thank you to those that turned out at Sidecar, especially those that brought donations for Positive Tomorrows! We were fortunate to hear from Sam Walker of Green Tree Project, a particularly interesting effort for downtowners with limited space. If you missed it, catch the video here:
Neighbors, please join us at our monthly social at the Sidecar Barley & Wine Bar, Automobile Alley’s neighborhood bar! Just around the corner from Broadway 10, Sidecar is the perfect place to order a single-malt scotch after work or grab a beer and butcher board with friends.
Thanks to those that turned out at Painted Door, such a great shop! Don’t forget she has a silent auction going on until Saturday for items formerly in her restaurant. We had a plethora of speakers this month, some unplanned, but all very informative.
Thank you to those that turned out at Stonecloud Brewing! We think everybody had a pretty good time. For those unable to attend, we presented a check for $2017, which we raised during the charity raffle at our UN10 celebration, to Positive Tomorrows. Here’s some video of that (apologies for the sound quality, it was VERY loud in there):
Then we heard from Representative Forrest Bennett:
Followed by a talk from a StoneCloud Taproom Manager:
Also during the event we unveiled our new banner (THANK YOU to our sponsors!):
Join your neighbors as we visit one of OKC’s newest breweries, Stonecloud Brewing, in the historic Sunshine Cleaner’s building, just outside of downtown. Our speaker this month will be one of downtown OKC’s representatives in the state legislature (House District 92), Forrest Bennett!
Thank you to all that attended our 10th Birthday Party, neighbors, members, and supporters alike. Without you we wouldn’t be here, and without you this event wouldn’t have been possible. Your past and continued support is appreciated, always. Thanks also for your generosity, as our raffle raised a nice sum for our charity, Positive Tomorrows. We’ll be presenting them with a check for $2,017 at our October social!
If you were new to our events and enjoyed what you experienced with our organization, please consider joining, or perhaps serving on the board or on a committee, to help us through the next ten years. If you missed the party, here’s a glimpse of what you missed:
Did you know Urban Neighbors, your one and only downtown neighborhood association, has been around for 10 years!?!
As first reported by The Oklahoman’sSteve Lackmeyer, just over ten years ago, we were getting our start. We could write a pretty extensive post about what we’ve done over the last ten years, but instead, we’d like to talk about what we’re going to do the NEXT ten years, and how you can help.
The first way you can help is by joining us at our 10th Birthday Party, on September 14th. See the Facebook Event and Google Calendar event for the particulars.
How does attending help? Well, our birthday bash will be a charity event benefiting Positive Tomorrows, so the more that attend, the better. There will be cash raffle drawings for prizes donated by our gracious downtown business community, and all raffle proceeds go to our charity. The first 100 guests to RSVPAND attend will receive a special gift. Everyone else will have to “settle” for cake, FREE beer and wine! The event will be held in the Broadway Wine Merchants Tasting Room (NOT the retail store) on Automobile Alley. If you or your organization would also like to help us with raffle prize donations, it’s not too late, so please contact us!
For the Next Ten Years, Urban Neighbors is re-focusing its mission. We’re still your neighborhood association, and we will continue to foster quality residential living in downtown Oklahoma City. But more than ever we’ll be dedicated to civic advocacy, charity, and community involvement. You’ll see this reflected more in our events, in the speakers we select, and in the organizations we support. Please join us, and not just by attending socials, but by contributing your time to help make these next ten years more successful than the last.
